When you need them

Water alone isn't always enough when you're sweating hard.

For sessions under an hour, water is usually fine. Go longer, hotter, or saltier-sweating and electrolytes help maintain performance and stave off cramps.

Start with sodium — it's the one you lose most — and adjust to how you feel.
